Turks Head Building

The Turks Head Building
Providence, Rhode Island

The Turks Head Building is one of the oldest skyscrapers in Providence.  It is over 200 feet high. With its distinctive flat-iron“V” shape, it has remained one of the most distinctive landmarks in Providence for many years. Weisman Roofing was the commercial roofing contractor selected for this important building, when an old section of the roofing system became irreparable.

Part of the roofing system adjacent to the 16th floor was used as a patio, and had been covered with terracotta 8x8 roofing tiles. Over time these tiles had become damaged. Weisman first removed this whole patio area and then replaced it with a layer of cement board.

Cement board is very stable and was perfect as the substrate for this roofing area because of its high impact resistance, flexibility and strength. It is also highly water resistant.  Weisman installed a white reflective modified bitumen roofing system over the cement board.

The high reflectivity of white reflective modified bitumen is ideal for buildings, offering the potential for a reduction of air-conditioning costs.  The roofing system’s reduction of UV radiation effects also means that the life of the commercial roofing system and substrate is increased.

To complete the re-roofing of this commercial office space, Weisman covered the insides of the surrounding parapets and walkways with the same modified bitumen commercial roofing system. The result was a long lasting, low maintenance commercial roofing system, with a full warranty from Weisman Roofing.
