Moses Brown Field House

Moses Brown Field House
The Moses Brown School
Providence, Rhode Island

Moses Brown School is one of the finer preparatory schools in New England. When the school’s Field House needed to be extended, Weisman Roofing, was awarded the job of roofing the new portions and reroofing the existing portions.

The Waughtel-Howe Field House holds an indoor track and basketball courts under an arched-barrel roof. This existing potion of this roof was and is a distinctive light green PVC commercial roofing system.

As an extension was planned, it was essential that the existing look of the building be maintained. The appearance of the roof had to be consistent. Therefore, Weisman suggested and applied multiple roofing systems, for the commercial roofing part of the fast-track new construction project. This roofing system for the field house used a superior quality, single-ply, PVC membrane system. The new PVC was painstakingly color matched with the existing barrel roof, to ensure a unified look.

Problems with brittle PVC from the 1960s have now been overcome, and newly installed PVC commercial roofing systems have up to a 30 year life span, due to their resistance to pollutants and extreme weather. Damaged areas of a PVC roofing system can also be easily repaired.

To maintain the esthetic character and tradition of the Moses Brown School, a new slate and copper roof section and specialty roofing metal work were installed. In addition, a modified bitumen roofing system was also required to complete the commercial roofing component of the building project.
