With intense time constraints, Weisman Roofing managed to complete the commercial roofing system at Keaney Gym, at the University of Rhode Island’s Kingston campus in less than 60 days.

In addition to its commercial roofing, Weisman Roofing served as the prime contractor supervising multiple trades. The renovation included not just roofing materials, but also the installation of new ventilation ducts and outlets, fire alarm electrical connections and the creation of new roof top drainage outlets. 

Initially, Weisman removed two existing layers of tar and gravel commercial roofing from the structure’s three levels, to ensure that there was no excess weight when the new roofing was applied. Removing the underlying roofing also provided a trouble-free and maintenance-free platform for the new roof. Then, once any defects in the underlying structure were corrected, the new roofing features were constructed, and the new roof covering applied. Finally, specialty custom copper work was completed.

The roofing requirements for this work were closely regulated by the state of Rhode Island. A white, heat reflecting, modified bitumen commercial roofing system with a 20-year warranty was installed. The white modified bitumen was specified to reduce the cost of air conditioning inside the building.

Weisman also met the additional requirement of continuously protecting a new gym floor which had already been installed.
