Bank of America
(formerly Fleet Tower)
Providence, Rhode Island
This well known landmark, often seen on television, was constructed between 1925 and 1928 and is the tallest building in Providence, at 428 feet and with 26 floors. Weisman Roofing’s challenge was to the tear off the existing roofing systems and replace them while the building was fully occupied.
To begin this reroofing project, Weisman removed all of the existing commercial roofing systems, first a single-ply membrane roofing system, then a tar and gravel system underneath that. Demolition debris was removed from the roof deck through a freight elevator and then down two floors of stairs to the ground level. After this, a heat-welded PVC single-ply membrane commercial roofing system was installed.
Concrete pavers, rated at 2500 psi, were laid down over a new double layer of PVC single-ply membrane 045 and 060 mil thicknesses to allow heavy high-rise window washing equipment to travel around the outside perimeter of the roof. The double thickness ensured the integrity of the underlying roofing membrane.
